Structure of the curriculum
Undergraduate study programme in Economics lasts four years (8 semesters), and contains 240ECTS in the field of humanities resulting in a Bachelor of Economics degree.
The objective of this study programme is to educate the experts possessing knowledge and skills as required by job positions which require the basic knowledge in economics.
There are two modules within this study programme: General Economics and Finances, and Stock Exchange and Banking. These modules are selected following the completion of the first year of studies.
The contents of the programme, rules and procedures of studies, as well as the rights and obligations of students are listed in publicly available publications, provided by the faculty each academic year. These publications are also available in the electronic form.
The candidates are enrolled following a competition called by the University of Kragujevac and implemented by the Faculty of Economics.
Enrollment requirements as well as other important elements of the study programme are proscribed by the Statute, the Book of Rules and study procedures of the Faculty, the Book of Rules and study procedures of the University of Kragujevac.
The following methods are used in instruction: teaching, mentored work, mid-term exams, exams, study research work, final thesis.
Teaching comprises lectures, exercises, consultations, and mentoring. This type of activity involves continuous contacts with teachers and assistants. Lectures, exercises, and consultations are held each week within semesters, according to the time-table.
Study programme comprises obligatory and electives. They are grouped according to the following classification: general subjects, theoretical-methodological subjects, scientific-professional, professional-applicative subjects.
The first year includes eight courses, seven out which are obligatory, whereas one is selected out of the three electives. The second year includes eight courses, out of which two are electives, selected out of the pool comprising four elective courses. The third and the fourth years include eight courses respectively, six out which are obligatory, whereas two courses are electives, selected out of the five-course pool.
The purpose of this study programme
The purpose of this study programme is to educate students of economics at an undergraduate level, providing them with competencies related to economic analysis and politics, monetary politics and analysis, public finances, banking, financial institutions, etc.
A contemporary study programme such as this one, enables students to perform successfully in the positions requiring them to demonstrate knowledge, skills and competences necessary for creating economic policy, both at micro and macro levels, conducting analyses and planning within enterprises, banks, insurance companies, public institutions, as well as making decisions important for international economy. Upon completion of this programme, students are capable of providing a significant contribution to the overall functioning of the national economic system and its constituent elements.
Upon completion of the undergraduate study programme of Economics, a student may continue their education by enrolling in graduate academic studies, in Serbia or abroad, resulting in the corresponding graduate degree.
Objectives of the study programme Economics
Objectives of this study programme encompass specific skills and knowledge in line with the latest trends in the field of economics at the undergraduate level.
A student is capable of recognizing, formulating and analyzing issues in the field of economics, which assumes students’ ability to develop analytical and creative approach to solving theoretical and practical issues.
The objective of this study programme is to provide students with basic, theoretical and practical knowledge in the following fields:
- theoretical economics
- economic analyses at micro and macro levels
- economic policy
- economic theory (contemporary economic theories, methodological procedures of economic analysis)
- macroeconomics (macroeconomic aggregates, macroeconomic models, macroeconomic analysis, economic growth and development)
- microeconomics (labor, goods, capital market functions, market pricing, entrepreneurial and financial institutions performance, etc.)
- economic policy and economic system (market economy institutions, instruments and tools for creating economic policies, influence of various economic-systemic mechanisms and institutions on economic development).
This study program is created in such manner that student is made capable of acquiring course-specific competencies which are in line with the leading faculties of economics and business schools in Europe.
Competencies acquired within the study programme of Economics
The competencies students acquire upon completion of this study programme are as follows:
- adopting methodological, quantitative, and qualitative scientific disciplines providing insight into the real pre-requisites of the economic growth and economic-theoretical analysis;
- mastering the skills necessary for conducting professional, managerial and analytical activities within a wide range of macro and microeconomics and economic growth;
- understanding of the nature and characteristics pertaining to banking and the ability to analyze and solve economic problems;
- general understanding of economic, ecological, and ethical interrelationships.
Upon graduation, students are able to work at companies, banks, and other financial organizations, at consultant offices, brokerages, stock exchanges. Students are, also, able to formulate and lead projects within the state governance to work on formulating economic policy measures at state agencies, and to conduct research and scientific work at institutes and higher education institutions.
